Projects submitted for new social housing on the site of the former EK sports center


Plans to transform the site of a vacant sports center in East Kilbride have been submitted to the South Lanarkshire Council.

The proposals would see the demolition of buildings associated with the former Greenhills Sports Center on Stroud Road, with social housing built in its place.

Rumors circulated that the site was going to be used for a new homeless unit after SLC announced that Lindsay House in the village would eventually close.

But those were canceled with plans for the land showing proposals for 28 two-bedroom apartments with associated infrastructure and landscaping filed by Merchant Homes Partnerships Ltd.

Local residents have raised concerns about parking in the area, with Maple Terrace already cited as an issue.

This is in addition to concerns that an increase in traffic on Stroud Road could lead to road safety issues and a loss of coziness and privacy with neglected existing properties.
