Thank you, from Montclair Rotary (Letter to the Editor)

The Rotary Club of Montclair would like to thank the many residents who shopped at Kings Food Market on Valley Road and donated these items along with funds at our food drive on Saturday August 6th. We appreciate the generous contribution of each donor.

We collected and contributed over 400 pounds of non-perishable groceries for Toni’s Kitchen at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Anne Mernin, the nonprofit’s executive director, estimated people donate enough groceries for 300 or more healthy meals.

We also appreciate the support we have received from Kings Food Markets Store Manager Kenny Rowe and the entire Upper Montclair Grocer team.

Our Rotarians were ready to greet customers on a 90+ degree day. We also spoke with people about Toni’s Kitchen’s mission to provide food to neighbors in need in a way that respects their dignity, improves their health, and promotes their independence.

The Rotarians who participated in the food drive were Georgia Brown, Linda Cranston, Jessica Egenasi, Paul Metcalfe, James Stefanile and myself along with Rotary friend Connie Eason. We were assisted by Mike Straker and Marquis Whitney, who are members of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Montclair Rotary is planning more community service projects in the coming months. We invite leaders of non-profit organizations that also serve Montclair Township and surrounding neighborhoods to form alliances with us. By joining forces and sharing our experience and resources, we have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of more individuals and families in our communities.

We look forward to reaching out and connecting with our friends at local nonprofits. You can contact me at [email protected] or attend one of our weekly meetings on Tuesdays starting at 12:15 p.m. at the Greek Taverna on Bloomfield Avenue.
