LUCKNOW: While small businesses are making big waves in UP, tech companies are playing an important role in their growth. Apart from using their platforms, these companies also become investors for small and medium-sized businesses.
Video communications platform Zoom has invested in various UP small businesses in different capacities.
During a visit to Lucknow, Zoom’s Managing Director and Head of India and SAARC Region Sameer Raje told TOI that the company has a dedicated team for small and medium businesses. “We help small businesses grow by enabling them to integrate our platform with their technology. For example, a service provider with its own farmer education app can integrate Zoom into its platform and use it to connect more people through video. Similarly, an application for doing KYC for banking in remote villages could integrate Zoom into its application. We are seeing several such collaborations,” he said, adding that the company also invests in such ventures.
Since the pandemic hit in 2020, Zoom has been involved in various initiatives with the UP government. “During the lockdown, from the chief minister’s office to the gram panchayat and the police and education departments were using Zoom for the dissemination of information. People realized they could reach a lot of people in a short time,” he said. The surge in users, Raje said, continued even after Covid.
He added that the state government is increasingly incorporating video into its digital initiatives such as training healthcare workers, educating farmers, measuring land data or finding missing persons in communities. remote villages.
To keep online courses and business centers in villages running smoothly, Zoom makes sure that legacy operating systems and low bandwidth don’t become impediments to app performance.
Welcoming the use of technology by the UP government, Raje said, “The use of technology and its resulting effectiveness in UP came as a surprise to us. UP is the primary market for us because the state government is exceptionally tech-savvy and we work closely with the state to bring their projects to the ground level.
Another critical area that Zoom contributes to is cybersecurity. “Two segments appeared to be of concern: seniors being tricked during transactions and young children consuming inappropriate content. We are developing training and awareness programs to keep them safe by working with NGOs, experts and content creators,” he said.
For example, a “snakes and ladders” game teaches kids about cybersecurity to make awareness fun, Raje said, adding that the company works with teachers and parents to keep kids safe online.
